awarded funding to revamp football facilities


People living in Loughborough set to benefit from fresh investment into local football facilities. Loughborough Phoenix FC have been awarded a grant from the Premier League, The FA and Government’s Football Foundation, to install new youth 11 v 11 Football goals their Burton Fields home ground.


The Football Foundation is the UK’s largest sports charity and exists to improve the experience of playing football for everyone, by championing fair access to quality facilities.


This grant to Loughborough Phoenix which plays in the Leicester Foxes League gives 30 players the chance to play football each week to improve their Pitch facilities.


Loughborough Phoenix worked with the Football Foundation and the Leicester and Rutland County FA to secure a £1000 grant towards the project.


Tony Sparano Chairman, said: “This grant has come at the right time to enable our youngsters to transition to the 11 v 11 format edging them nearer to the adult football game. It has been a difficult year to acquire funds due to Covid, so this will certainly help our plight to continue ”


Robert Sullivan, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, said: “This grant award to Phoenix towards developing New 11 v 11 goals is great news for the local community.


“It will support people’s ability to play national game locally and therefore help unlock football’s many benefits to physical and mental wellbeing. That’s why we’re committed to transforming the face of grassroots football facilities in this country. It’s therefore very welcome news to hear that this funding will support Loughborough Phoenix in developing Burton Fields for their local community.


“The Football Foundation is working closely with our partners – the Premier League, The FA, government and Sport England – support facility development projects like this across the country over the next decade to transform our grassroots game and unlock the power of pitches.”
